Snippets of Sunday - Old Churches Rock!

Note the raindrop smudge towards the top of the church.

I had a little time out by myself today.
It doesn't happen often enough, but what can one do when hubby works a lot and there's no family near by to help with the kids?

On my way to my favourite markets, I stopped at this church on Riversdale Rd and took some photos. I've been wanting to do this for so long now, but I've always got someone else with me.
I braved the icy, cold wind and wandered around the church, taking photos and trying to ignore the discomfort that the cold was causing to my ungloved hands.

It's such a beautiful church with it's large bluestone bricks and gothic style arches and steeple.

I would have loved to go inside, but the divine service was already in progress and I was on a mission to check out the goods at the markets.

Maybe next time.

Snippets of Sunday - Ms Heap and Mr Beck

I don't know how much you're into music, but it's pretty much part of the landscape in these here part of the woods.

It's almost as much a need as bread and water to me.
I don't think I'd live very happily without it.

Music defines different memories and stories from my life.
It's all filed away back there in the recesses of moi's grey matter.

Anyway, I'll get to the point.
The snippet I want to share with you today is a song that I really love.
This chicky babe is an awesome singer and I love all her music.
What's great about this clip is that she's singing along to music made by Jeff Beck(guitar) and Tal Wilkenfield(bass).
What a trio!

Everyone give a warm round of applause for................
IMOGEN HEAP!!!!!

Seriously, you must hear it.

Happy days, people!

Snippets of Sunday - Kick It!

It's really cold and windy here today, but he insists on wearing shorts outside.
*sigh*
I don't worry too much, as long as his top half is warm.

I love taking action shots of him.
Some of them are just hysterical!

Classic shot!

I really, really wish I had a DSLR though cos then I wouldn't have that damn fraction of a second of shutter delay after pressing the button.
It's very frustrating when you're trying to capture a particular shot.
Oh well, them's the breaks.

He makes me laugh so much!

So there's my snippet of today.
The Monkey Boy kicking his soccer ball.

Hope you've been having a lurvely weekend.

Snippets of Sunday - Gift from God

I took these photos last Sunday when she had a cold.
Her throat was sore. Her lips were really dry. She had a stuffy nose.
She still smiles though.
That's just how she is. How she has always been.

She's all gorgeous, thick hair and dreamy eyes.
She has a heart as big as the sun and beyond.
She has the gift of empathy for others not often seen in a young child.
She loves people!
She hates to see people hurting.

She's says she'd like to be a nurse when she grows up.
She'd be a brilliant nurse!
She'd be brilliant at anything she put her mind to.

She always says 'Hello' to people.
Even grown ups.
If she knew you, she would wave and say 'Hi' to you, using your name.
I love that she's even friendly to grown ups.
Us grown ups like to be noticed too.

Look at those eyes.
When they fill with tears for whatever reason, my heart contorts into all sorts of painful shapes.
She holds your heart that way.
You can't help but give it to her.
She's ever so gentle with it.

She's my Angel.
 Our princess.
A gift from God to be sure.
God knew exactly what He was doing when He made me her Mum.
I need her just as much as she needs me and sometimes, I need her more.

Snippets of Sunday - Chilly Smoke

I smell like smoke. NO! I haven't been smoking, I've just been standing near a fire.
My darling decided to burn the great pile of rose bush clippings that I had made a few months ago. Let me just say, I've been asked oh so politely not to do that again.
I won't. I promise!

Anyway, today is a clear, sunny, windy and very cold day. Having this fire burning on such a winters day made me feel nostalgic. I was transported right back to the years I spent as a kid, growing up on 13 acres in the bush. Riding pushbikes. Riding motorbikes. Roaming the bush in search of some mischief to get up to.

I loved Sunday afternoons in winter out there. The trees casting long shadows early in the afternoon. There was usually the echo of a chainsaw happening somewhere on a neighbouring propery. Sometimes it was the sound of Dad using the chainsaw or even the tractor to mow the grass.
And there was always the smell of smoke. Be it from our chimney or from Dad or a neighbour burning off.
Yep, this afternoons mix of chill in the air and smell of smoke took me right back to that carefree time of my life.

It's no wonder some people live in the past.
Nostalgia is a powerful emotion.
I think I'm just going to stay there for the rest of today.
