Peppermint and Steve Madden

Some of you already know what I'm about to tell you. It's old news by now, but better late than never. I've been meaning to blog about this for a couple of weeks, but the holidays took over my life and I never quite got around to it. Well, more like I didn't get around to taking a photo or two to put with this post.
So, without further ado I'd like to let you know that our gorgeous friend, Georgina, has also been given a spot in this quarters Peppermint magazine. Page 65 to be exact.
How about that hey? She's in two magazines at once! It's very exciting!

I'd not heard of Peppermint before last month and now I'm a big fan! It's a gorgeous magazine and I think I shall be buying every issue from this day forth. If you haven't seen it before, it's a little bit like Frankie magazine, but I found it even more appealing.

Now, to the first bargain of the year. Scored at Camberwell Markets. I'm totally in love with those markets! I really am and I'd be very happy if anyone could point me in the direction of any other markets like it in Melbourne.

Anyway, moving right along, I bought these shoes with the very last bit of money in my purse. An unheard of price for a pair of shoes. Can ya guess? Can ya? Can ya????
Steve Madden wedges in good condition for the princely sum of .....................drum roll please.................................50 cents!
True story!
And they rocked the little black dress I wore to church the other day.

I love me a good pair of wedges!
I love me a good pair of wedges that took the last 50 cents in my purse.

Introducing 'perpetual one' to the Nation

I've been waiting ever so patiently for the January issue of Country Style to hit the stands. I've been waiting patiently for a very special reason. Do you wanna know what that reason is???

Well, my dear friend Georgina of perpetual one and her very cute 1963 Sunliner caravan, Sunny, are one of the feature articles in this issue.

I'm so excited for her! It's a lovely article telling how she has arrived at this particalar place in her dream of having a second hand goods shop.

She's a clever girl that Georgina! She comes up with the best ideas! I'm so proud of her and want to wish her all the best in her venture as a vintage goods stockist.

Not only is she clever, but she is one of the most darling, gentle and  genuine people you will ever meet.
What you see is what you get with George. You really should visit her at the Peregian Beach markets in 2011.

These are just a few photos I took of the magazine article. If you would like to see the full spread then get on down to your local newsagent and pick up a copy.
Now pop on over to her website and say 'Hi'. She would love to hear from you.
Love your work Georgie! xx

Road to Bethlehem

Tonight is the last of four nights for the Road to Bethlehem event. I took the kids a couple of nights ago and we had a brilliant time. So much so that I have promised to take them again tonight.

What a fantastic event that has been put together by so many dedicated volunteers to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
It has a great family atmosphere with face painting, balloon shapes, crafts, a dvd tent, food and drinks, a playdough tent, a band and various other things. And all of it is for free except the food and drinks which are kept at minimal cost anyway.
The actual Road to Bethlehem experience is free too. You just have to book your tickets as everyone goes through in groups, at 6 minute intervals. The attention to detail is just so amazing! There are lights and sound and smoke machines. The whole shebang! I would love to see it late at night when it's dark. It's just too late for the kids by then though. Maybe next year.
I'm sorry my photos aren't all that brilliant, but you'll get the general idea. It's hard to take good photos with so many people around and a 3 year old wanting to be held the whole time.
The angel appearing to Mary to tell her she would be the mother of Jesus.

Some of the local vendors selling their wares.

The three wise men looking for the new baby King.

The three wise men talking to Herod.

A flock of sheep.

Some shepherds in the field at night being woken by the angel.

The angel bringing the good news of Jesus' birth to the shepherds.

A real camel, giving some authenticity to the experience.

The gates of Bethlehem.

A beggar on the streets of Bethlehem.

More vendors and beggars.

The inn keeper and his wife and daughter telling us about the miraculous birth of Jesus.

Joseph and Mary with the Baby Jesus.

An angel choir singing praises to the King of the universe.

As we left there were 'tax collectors' collecting donations that we chose to give in appreciation of our experience.

We wrote on one of the sticks and Monkey stuck it in the ground with the hundreds of others.

All these names and love notes at the foot of the cross.

The reason why Jesus, God, came to our sin filled earth as a human baby. To die the most painful, humiliating and lonely death imaginable so that we can choose to accept His gift of salvation.

The true meaning of Christmas.
The gift of eternal life...sin free.

The Chooks

Monkey and I drove out to the country after dropping Angel off at school this morning. I LOVE the country and hope to live in it one day, but for now, it's just for little visits. It's just so green and lush. It is balm for the eyes of a city dweller. Quenching a thirst that is rarely satisfied in the city. *sigh* I must dawdle on out there more often.

So, we rocked on up to the poultry farm, and I knew it the moment I opened the car door. A blind man would know he was at a chook farm. The stench is appalling!
Monkey opted to stay in the car and play games on my iPhone, so I was on my own. I had to do the choosing all by myself. Wasn't hard really. I just said to the lady, "l'll have 2 brown ones and one light brown one please."
She reached right into that cage and grabbed two of them by their legs. I could tell she had done this before.
As she did that, I was imagining the chooks talking to each other just like they do in animated movies, you know, in English for the movie goers, but if a person in the movie heard them all they'd hear is, "Brrrk, Brrk, Brk, Brrrrk...",
Anyway, so I was imagining them saying something like, "Oh no, they've got Doris!"
Doris yells,"Help, that woman's got my legs! Help, help!". Then Max pipes in,"She's got mine too. That means we're going together. Stick with me. It'll be alright!" All the other chooks were calling out, "Oh, we'll miss you! Bye Doris, Bye Max. Hope you don't become dinner!"
Then into the box they went.
All the lady and I heard was, " Brrk, brrrk, brk, brk, brrrrrk."
Next was the light brown chooks turn. She says,"Get your hands off me woman! If you'd just ask me nicely, I'll walk into that box for you. You don't have to grab me by the legs and put me upside down. JUST ASK ME NICELY!"
Again, all we heard was, "Brk, brk, brrk."
Ok, so back to real life. We now have chooks in our backyard, and yes we named them Max(Maxine), Doris and Penelope. Angel and I wanted Max to be Patsy, but the boys insisted on naming one of them and they chose Max. That's ok, I will refer to her as Maxine on occassion as it is more feminine.
Aren't they cute? Well as cute as any generic brown chook can be. If you look closely at their eyes though, they looked really freaked out. Like they've had too much speed or something.
My cute, freaked out looking chooks!

That egg was laid in the box on the way home. The first egg! It's proudly sitting in the fridge. I just might have it for breaky...poached.
I'm hoping there will be three more eggs tomorrow. We'll have to wait and see.

The Neighbours Window

This is the view from my kitchen window. Almost every time I am working in the kitchen and look out the window, I wonder who lives next door, what their furniture looks like, what they do with their time, if they are looking out their window at me in my kitchen.
It's the same when I am sitting at a cafe or at the shopping centre, people watching. I look at the faces of people, the expression on their face, what they are wearing, how they carry themselves, if they are with someone else and I wonder what they do, where they are going, why they are here.
Everyone has a story whether it be interesting or not. I suppose most stories are interesting because it's different to mine. I often wish I was an extrovert and was comfortable striking up conversations with complete strangers. I would ask them all sorts of questions about themselves and ask them to tell me their story. I love to hear people's stories. If people are willing to open up about their life, I could sit and listen for hours. I find people so very interesting, unfortunately, a lot of people are too wary or in a hurry to sit and talk and share their story. Unfortunately, it is completely outside my comfort zone to strike up a conversation with someone I don't know. Because of this, I know I am missing out. I'm missing out on viewing life from someone elses perspective, from seeing things from someone elses point of view. I'm missing out on hearing the adventures of someone elses journey. Maybe, somehow, I can reinvent myself as an extrovert so that I can enjoy talking to people I don't know, well, listen to them anyway. I'd rather listen than talk.
Maybe one day soon I will work up the courage to go next door and meet the people who live behind that window that I see from my kitchen, and maybe I will find that they have a great story to tell. I really hope so. I love a good story!
