Photo Fun

I was just looking through some of my photos and came across this one that I took in the Degraves laneway in Melbourne a few days before christmas.
I really like it and thought I'd share it.

Workers and shoppers pass in a hurry, seeking out somewhere to throw down some food in the restricted time they have, while a lone cellist plays the most beautiful music in not so beautiful surroundings.
Such a contrast in art forms.

I'm linking this to Becky at Farmgirl Paints who is doing a photography course at the moment and each Tuesday tells us about a new thing she has learned then asks us to link up a photo for her photo comp.
This week it's about thirds.

Catchya soon!

Playgrounds Are Fun!

Yesterday was a perfect day. Sunshine, cool breezes, blue skies, warm, but not hot. Perfect.

The park was calling our names.

I couldn't find him for a sec. He was in here with some other kids, just chilling and chatting.

She waited patiently for a turn on the tyre swing.
 The patience paid off.

Then we all got on together.

And we went around and around and around...

I might add, it's hard taking photos while you're spinning around really fast.
It was so much fun though. I feel such contentment and freedom when I'm spinning and swinging...until I start to feel sick.

Fun times and special memories!

I'd really like the summer holidays to end now though please.

My garden needs some lovin'.

So you know that in the past week and a half we have moved house. It's one of my most unfavourite things to do! All the packing, cleaning, unpacking, purging, cleaning, decision making...it's the decision making that I dislike the most. It actually hurts my brain to have to make decisions about what to keep and what to throw out, give away, where to put everything, which cupboards, which rooms...blah, blah, blah....argh! I'm just sooooo over stuff!!!

Some of the front garden (neighbours house in the background). Notice there are TWO hydrangea in this garden? I've always wanted one of those and now I have two!

I'm completely off track now. What I really wanted to talk about is the garden that comes with living in this house. It's the most garden that I have ever had the pleasure of having to look after. It is, however, in need of some tender loving care. Especially the roses. I've never had roses before. I'm not too sure what to do with them. Maybe you can give me some tried and true advice on how to make them really pretty again.

What do I do?? What do I do?? Help!!!

We are also blessed with some fruit trees.

A giant lemon tree. Very exciting indeed given how expensive they are to buy in the shops.

A cherry tree that needs a bit of a prune.

A crooked apple tree.

One of the not yet ripe apples.

Monkey took it upon himself a couple of days ago to bring over a step ladder and pick some of the lower apples. Lets just say Mummy wasn't too happy about it.

A gigantic gardenia bush.

And some tree ferns next to the big, inground spa which I happened to be sitting in this morning while I had my morning cuppa. Bliss.
Those boards aren't staying either. We just haven't got a cover for it yet, so they are doing the job for now.

So, you can see the garden needs a bit of a prune here and there, but my biggest challenge is the roses. Actually, maybe my biggest challenge is trying to hang the washing on the clothesline.
Kidding! I haven't used it. It's being replaced tomorrow.

I should add that there is a blackberry bush climbing over the top of the fence behind the clothesline too. Yum!

Happy Australia Day to all my fellow Aussies!
Hope you're having a great day!

Versatility is the Key

Donna from Comin' Home passed on The Versatile Blogger award to me last week. This is the second award that dear Donna has given me in the past few months. (I think she likes my blog). I'd love to pass it right back to her, but she has already recieved it from someone else and I'm supposed to pass it on, not pass it back.

Thank you Donna!

As you well know, I must share some things about myself that you don't know. Hmmm, I only did that in the last post. Thinking...thinking...thinking...ok

1. I love wearing nail polish on my toenails in summer. I never wear it on my fingernails.

2. I learned to play the flute when I was 13. I can no longer remember how to play it.

3. I love brussell sprouts.

4. I always spot the spelling and grammatical errors in anything I read. Frustratingly, even my own after I have posted on my blog.

5. I love watching all the animated movies...ie Cars, Megamind, Flushed Away... all those kinds of movies.

6. I really enjoy all the dreaming and planning of crafts and projects, but I rarely follow through. Something I'm hoping to change about myself this year.

7. I have only made pavalova once in my whole life...sad, I know.

There a few blogs I'd like to pass this award onto.

So off you go, drop in and visit these lovely ladies. They always have something interesting to say or share or show.

Have a great day!

Stylish Blogger Award

Early last week I was a recipient of the Stylish Blogger Award.

The very lovely Pam of Bayside Rose fame blessed me by choosing my blog to pass this award onto.
I enjoy reading other peoples posts when they recieve an award because, part of the deal is that they have to tell things about themselves that we in blogland might not already know about them.

I did enjoy reading Pam's seven things that we didn't know about her.
She's so well travelled and such an interesting person with a gorgeous style all of her own. I've loved reading her blog from the moment I found her.
Go on, go and have a sticky beak at her space. You might just love her too.

Seven things you may not know about me...

1. My favourite tv show is MASH.

2. My second favourite tv show is Mad Men. Actually, maybe 1 and 2 should swap places.

3. I don't like playing Barbies. I will do almost anything to get out of it. Bad Mummy!

4. I have lived in 3 of Austalia's capital cities in my lifetime.

5. I am particularly fond of Thai Red Curry.

6. I'm not particularly fond of fruit. I do eat it, but not often enough. Bad, I know. Give me a plate of steamed veges or an awesome salad and I'm a happy lady, but fruit just doesn't do it for me.

7. I never wear lipstick. I did before I had children, but had to stop cos I was kissing them constantly and babies covered in lipstick isn't a particularly good look. I do love a good gloss though.

Now, I'm supposed to pass this on to 15 blogs, but I'm just going to choose 2.

Ladies, you both ooze style and I really enjoy reading your blog posts.
It's up to you what you do with this award, but I'm giving it to you cos you deserve it.

Been Moving

'Allo Ladies and Gents.
Thought I'd pop into blogland briefly to let you know that we have spent the last week packing, moving house and cleaning. Phwoar! What a job that is when you're on a teeny tiny time limit.

Totally random photo taken in a Melbourne alley cos I don't like posting without photos.

There's a little bit of a story here so if you bear with me I'll tell you in as few words as possible.

Last Monday I answered a knock at the door. It was the postie with registered mail that I had to sign for. In that registered envelope was a Notice to Vacate from the real estate, even though we were about to sign the lease for another 12 months. It turns out our landlord needed his house back asap. So, we had a look on the internet that afternoon, found a house we liked in the same suburb and it just so happened that there was an open inspection at that property at 5 o'clock that afternoon. We went, along with roughly 25 other people. The next morning we put our application for tenancy into the real estate along with 6 other people and that afternoon we recieved a call from the property manager telling us the house was ours.

Now, you can't tell me that wasn't an answer to prayer. The whole process was so quick and flowed so smoothly. It was like this new house was just waiting for us to come along. Also, it's for the same rent as the old place AND it's heaps bigger with a huge inground spa out the back and lots of garden around the fence line.

Are we happy campers? I think so!!!

Our internet was connected just this morning, so I am back on line...yay! I can now see what you've all been up to in the past week. In between bouts of cleaning this place and unpacking of course.

Be good!

Peppermint and Steve Madden

Some of you already know what I'm about to tell you. It's old news by now, but better late than never. I've been meaning to blog about this for a couple of weeks, but the holidays took over my life and I never quite got around to it. Well, more like I didn't get around to taking a photo or two to put with this post.
So, without further ado I'd like to let you know that our gorgeous friend, Georgina, has also been given a spot in this quarters Peppermint magazine. Page 65 to be exact.
How about that hey? She's in two magazines at once! It's very exciting!

I'd not heard of Peppermint before last month and now I'm a big fan! It's a gorgeous magazine and I think I shall be buying every issue from this day forth. If you haven't seen it before, it's a little bit like Frankie magazine, but I found it even more appealing.

Now, to the first bargain of the year. Scored at Camberwell Markets. I'm totally in love with those markets! I really am and I'd be very happy if anyone could point me in the direction of any other markets like it in Melbourne.

Anyway, moving right along, I bought these shoes with the very last bit of money in my purse. An unheard of price for a pair of shoes. Can ya guess? Can ya? Can ya????
Steve Madden wedges in good condition for the princely sum of .....................drum roll please.................................50 cents!
True story!
And they rocked the little black dress I wore to church the other day.

I love me a good pair of wedges!
I love me a good pair of wedges that took the last 50 cents in my purse.

The Lake House

This past week was the last week for my hubby's Christmas holidays. I'm really rather sad about it actually. We've had some great times over the past 3 weeks. It's gone so quickly and the real year is about to begin for us.
Of course we just had to spend a few days at the lake house. Why not? It's sitting there unoccupied and waiting to be filled with noise, fun and laughter. A friend and her 2 kids were able to come with us this time. It was sooo much fun!
We ate and played board games and went to the lake and into town for coffee. The kids had so much fun playing outside together on bikes and scooters and a skateboard.
The weather was perfect! It would have been so nice to stay a few days longer. There's always weekends though.

This is part of the view from the front verandah. We just sit out there and chat and enjoy the serenity.

This guy graced us with his presence after I put out some bread. My friend Ms M and I were only sitting about 1.5 metres away from him.

Photo taken by Danny

I thought this was a great photo and just had to put it into this post as part of our holiday photos.

Danny and Monkey practising shooting with the air pistol. Monkey thought it was the bees knees!

Lake Eildon. Well a snippet of it anyway. It's a REALLY big lake and this is just the Gough's Bay bit of it.
Why is sitting by water so calming and relaxing?

He did not let go of Dad's hand.

Just messing about with the B&W function on the camera.

He noticed I was taking photos of him as he was walking out of the water, so he put on quite the display for me.

Cheeky Monkey!!!

This turned into...

...this.
Nice!

And some more. Note the really nice boat in the background.

How the other half live.
By that I mean the older people with grown up kids that they don't have to pay for anymore.

Aaaahhhh the serenity.

Graffit Art- Melbourne City

There are paintings along the whole length of this alley way.

I had no idea that mythical creatures smoke.

Nothing appears to escape the spray can's touch.
