Snippets of Sunday - Chilly Smoke

I smell like smoke. NO! I haven't been smoking, I've just been standing near a fire.
My darling decided to burn the great pile of rose bush clippings that I had made a few months ago. Let me just say, I've been asked oh so politely not to do that again.
I won't. I promise!

Anyway, today is a clear, sunny, windy and very cold day. Having this fire burning on such a winters day made me feel nostalgic. I was transported right back to the years I spent as a kid, growing up on 13 acres in the bush. Riding pushbikes. Riding motorbikes. Roaming the bush in search of some mischief to get up to.

I loved Sunday afternoons in winter out there. The trees casting long shadows early in the afternoon. There was usually the echo of a chainsaw happening somewhere on a neighbouring propery. Sometimes it was the sound of Dad using the chainsaw or even the tractor to mow the grass.
And there was always the smell of smoke. Be it from our chimney or from Dad or a neighbour burning off.
Yep, this afternoons mix of chill in the air and smell of smoke took me right back to that carefree time of my life.

It's no wonder some people live in the past.
Nostalgia is a powerful emotion.
I think I'm just going to stay there for the rest of today.

When Ms G Was Here

Ya'll know I love her.
Some of you know that we got to hang mid February.
I just came across this photo and thought I'd put it out there. After all, Ms G did mention our outings on her blog.
She's a Melbourne girl at heart. I just know it!
I just wish she'd move here.

Here we are, having a cuppa at the Camberwell Markets.
If you click here, you can see what Ms G has been up to lately.

She'd love to hear from you.

Liz

During a break in filming A Place in the Sun, Taylor chats with her costar Montgomery Clift on the Paramount lot.

It doesn't matter how you remember her. The point is, we will ALL remember her.
Those eyebrows. The violet coloured eyes. The strong personality. The very essence of femininity. She oozed it!

Her compassion. Her passion.
I believe she loved deeply. I'm not talking about the men she married. I'm talking about her friends. Although, she did love her men and her jewels.

Liz was a little bit special to me. Not only because I watched her movies as a child, but because we shared a birthday. She was 40 years my senior. Every year, I would remember her on February 27.

RIP Liz.
May the glamour live on in your memory.

The Michael Bublé Concert

Last night I got my groove on. I rocked a concert ticket and my little black camera. I was known to hoot loudly and clapped till my hands were crimson.
Whooo!!!

Last night was all about the music!

The concert opened with Naturally 7. These guys are great!
NO instruments required!

They are touring in April and playing in Melbourne on April 30. I might just have to see how much the tickets are. Even the kids love to watch them on Youtube.

Very, very good warm up for Michael.

So, without further ado, I give you MICHAEL BUBLE!

This guy is cool. This guy is suave. This guy is very at home on the stage. He is charismatic. He is surprisingly funny. So funny, in fact, that I would have been happy to listen to him do stand up all night.
But he didn't. He sang. Boy, can he sing!

Not all his songs are my cup of tea. But that didn't matter last night.

And the band...
Well, where do I start? Such a talented bunch of blokes. Just fantastic music!!!
They make it sound easy to play.

Naturally, Michael sang a song with Naturally 7.

And naturally, I played around with the settings on my camera. I learnt a thing or two about taking photos at night. I was very pleased to learn more about using my camera last night. And, was very happy to see a lot of the photos actually turned out well.

He has a lot of fun when he performs. He did a lot of sliding down this part of the stage.
He even moonwalked down it when he did a short tribute to Michael Jackson by dancing and singing 'Billie Jean'. It was so unexpected and SO awesome!!!
The audience LOVED it!!!

He said goodnight and the lights went out. Pffft, everyone knows that's not the end of a concert.
I was delighted when the first few notes of 'Feeling Good' started and he came back on stage. I would have been absolutely crushed if he didn't sing that song! Y'all know it's my favourite.
He did NOT disappoint. Neither did the band. They rocked!

Ya gotta love a three song encore.

Thanks Michael for an awesome night! I know have an itty bitty crush on you and I'll be seeing you next time you come to Melbourne.

What a way to start the birthday celebrations!
Yep, today is my birthday. And yes, I'm telling you so you can leave me a comment, cos I love comments. Don't love birthdays so much, but I love comments!

My Baby Boy

I know I put this photo up in a recent post, but I'm giving it it's own post because I love it so much.
Maybe because I love the little person in this photo more than I can express in words.

Maybe I love this photo so much because he held onto his daddy's hand the whole time he was in the water.
Maybe I love this photo cos that face is just so darn cute!
All I know is that I really love this photo.

I'm linking to this weeks i heart faces photo challenge.

Playgrounds Are Fun!

Yesterday was a perfect day. Sunshine, cool breezes, blue skies, warm, but not hot. Perfect.

The park was calling our names.

I couldn't find him for a sec. He was in here with some other kids, just chilling and chatting.

She waited patiently for a turn on the tyre swing.
 The patience paid off.

Then we all got on together.

And we went around and around and around...

I might add, it's hard taking photos while you're spinning around really fast.
It was so much fun though. I feel such contentment and freedom when I'm spinning and swinging...until I start to feel sick.

Fun times and special memories!

I'd really like the summer holidays to end now though please.

Some Pics From Last Week

Feeding the black swans at Albert Park Lake.

I think Angel was trying to pat this one. I didn't actually take this photo so I don't know what was going on. I was too busy gas bagging with the friends we were with.

This little duck really wanted that bread, but not enough to actually take it out of Monkeys hand.
Monkey tried and tried to get the duck to come really close, but it just wouldn't.

Playgrounds are fun!

We went back to Middle Brighton Beach...without any swimmers. She was longing to get into that water.

So they did. Just their feet at first.

And then ALL of them.
Mummy learned a lesson from this outing. Always take swimmers when you're going to the beach (even if its a cold, windy day) AND always have a towel in the car.

They were in heaven!

Of course Mummy stood up on the beach, freezing in the cold wind and watched while the kids had a ball.
