T&G Tuesday - Dead Tree Hill

Taken while driving through the Yarra Valley.
All the vineyards are displaying lovely brown rows at the moment.
They still look cool though.
I HAD to stop and take a photo of this old tree sitting up there on the hill amongst the rows of grape vines.
I didn't even notice that cloud until I was editing the photo.
I'm liking it!

Teacups and Graffiti - Winter Trees

All the leaves are brown...

And the air is crisp and clear.

Trees are bare.

I'm a huge fan of winter.

Bring it!

But bring it with some sunshine...please.

My garden needs some lovin'.

So you know that in the past week and a half we have moved house. It's one of my most unfavourite things to do! All the packing, cleaning, unpacking, purging, cleaning, decision making...it's the decision making that I dislike the most. It actually hurts my brain to have to make decisions about what to keep and what to throw out, give away, where to put everything, which cupboards, which rooms...blah, blah, blah....argh! I'm just sooooo over stuff!!!

Some of the front garden (neighbours house in the background). Notice there are TWO hydrangea in this garden? I've always wanted one of those and now I have two!

I'm completely off track now. What I really wanted to talk about is the garden that comes with living in this house. It's the most garden that I have ever had the pleasure of having to look after. It is, however, in need of some tender loving care. Especially the roses. I've never had roses before. I'm not too sure what to do with them. Maybe you can give me some tried and true advice on how to make them really pretty again.

What do I do?? What do I do?? Help!!!

We are also blessed with some fruit trees.

A giant lemon tree. Very exciting indeed given how expensive they are to buy in the shops.

A cherry tree that needs a bit of a prune.

A crooked apple tree.

One of the not yet ripe apples.

Monkey took it upon himself a couple of days ago to bring over a step ladder and pick some of the lower apples. Lets just say Mummy wasn't too happy about it.

A gigantic gardenia bush.

And some tree ferns next to the big, inground spa which I happened to be sitting in this morning while I had my morning cuppa. Bliss.
Those boards aren't staying either. We just haven't got a cover for it yet, so they are doing the job for now.

So, you can see the garden needs a bit of a prune here and there, but my biggest challenge is the roses. Actually, maybe my biggest challenge is trying to hang the washing on the clothesline.
Kidding! I haven't used it. It's being replaced tomorrow.

I should add that there is a blackberry bush climbing over the top of the fence behind the clothesline too. Yum!

Happy Australia Day to all my fellow Aussies!
Hope you're having a great day!

Oh Christmas Tree

This is what happens when you give a 3 and 5 year old complete control over decorating the christmas tree.

I left the room while they went to work.

Yes, I know, it's such a HUGE tree...not. I'm actually not a fan of fake christmas trees. Mum and Dad NEVER had one. We had a real tree every year. I miss that.  I think that I will buy a real tree next year. Maybe a potted one so it can slowly grow over the years like the kids. Anyway, back to the decorating...

I was going to redo it after they went to bed, but I kinda like it all messy and lopsided, so I'm going to leave it.
Normally it would have the tinsel evenly wound around the tree with all the baubles hanging in evenly spaced distances. When I decorate the tree, I'm very particular about how everything is arranged.
Having children is teaching me to let go and just let it be.
After all, it really doesn't matter and they have done something special for the christmas season and have been creative in the process.

The Girls aka the Chooks

Here is Le Monkey proudly holding one of the eggs we collected last week. He loves to collect the eggs. Both the kids do. They are always very careful to take them straight to the fridge and put them in the carton very carefully. We had a few egg droppings in the first week of egg collecting, so now they are extra careful.

The Hubby finished the new, bigger coop last night. It's probably way bigger than the girls really need, but, oh well. At least they won't be all over each other like in the original coop.

We've also moved their fence so they have a much larger portion of the back yard to run around in. It includes two trees for them to keep cool under on those hot summer days that are just around the corner. There's lots more insects for them to find now too.
I'm loving the chooks and the fresh eggs.
I'm hating the smell of them though.
Who knew chooks poo so much?!

Green, Green, Green, Green, Green...

Did I ever mention that I love trees?

I dream of living in a VERY leafy suburb. The country would be better, but it has to be the city for now. I'm thinking Blackburn/Forest Hill area would do rather nicely. Dream, dream, dream...

Very fun flying fox cable is cutting my photo in half.

Green, green, green, green and more green!
I LOVE GREEN!

This goose, and I mean that in a very affectionate way, contemplated jumping to that tree branch. It's further away from him than it actually looks from this angle. I was all for it, but his other half objected rather strongly. Shame, would have made for some cool photos, especially if he missed. Bwahahahahahah...

Sunny Days, Monkey and Eat, Pray, Love

I've been feeling a bit all over the place of late. Happy, content, tired, very ordinary, melancholy, joyful, cheeky, snoozie, indifferent...and the list of ups and downs goes on. Mostly though, I've been feeling good. I would have to say that it has a lot to do with the unbelievably gorgeous weather we've been having. Clear skies, sun, soft breezes, warmth without humidity. It's just divine really. I find it hard not to feel content in some way on such a gorgeous day.
As usual too, I think often about things that I would like to blog about. I write paragraphs in my head of different topics that I feel the need to share with the world and now that I am in front of the computer, typing, I can't think of one of the very important topics to share. That's so typical of me. So scatterbrained sometimes.

And now I'm being interrupted by the 3 year old Monkey asking me a barrage of questions. So many questions...all the time. Does he think I'm an encyclopedia or something? I can assure you that I'm not. Far from it in fact. Unfortunately, when his questioning goes just that little bit too far I end up saying either, "I don't know." or "Just because...". Hardly satisfying answers for an inquisitive mind, but that's all I've got.
He just saw this photo being uploaded to this post and put his hand on his chest and exclaimed, "I'm loading!". Kids these days!
I don't even have any cool photos to share cos I haven't been anywhere to take any. Sorry, so boring of me. Actually I do have one photo I think is pretty cool. This is at a cottage, which name eludes me right now, at Mitchum. Notice anything different about this door?
That's right! No door handle! I was going to save this photo for a post where I could use it to illustrate a point about not being able to 'open the door' or 'can't get in' or 'being unable to reach out', but I'm just not feeling that clever at the moment.

I went on a girls night out on Saturday night for dinner and a movie and totally forgot to break out the camera to take some photos. Oh well. We only talked and ate and then watched a movie. Nothing too exciting to show. It was fun though. We saw Eat, Pray, Love. I haven't read the book, but after watching the movie I can say without a doubt that the book is better. The movie really lacked something. It didn't speak to me. It didn't touch me. I was a little disappointed to say the least. To me, it felt like the movie was made in a hurry or not enough thought had gone into adapting it from the book. Not enough depth to the main characters, or maybe it was bad acting. Don't know. Can't quite put my finger on it. I'm hoping Lilian of Mothering Misadventures will critique it when she has seen it. She's great at that sort of thing.

Anyhoo, I need to go and cuddle the Monkey. He is requiring his mother's attention.
Hope you all have a lovely day!
